At West Prairie Middle School your child will have physical education every day for forty minutes. The program has been designed to focus on three major areas that contribute to one's health and well being:
Social Concepts, Team Building, and Leadership Training- Students have many opportunities to lead in class activities such as exercise leader and through the role of a team captain. They may also have an opportunity to demonstrate skills for class. Socially, the students will collaborate sharing their ideas in terms of selecting a team name to designing a routine or developing a game to name a few.
Skill Themes- Basic motor skills such as throwing, kicking, volleying, catching and striking with a bat or racket are taught. Students may then apply these fundamental skills in games and sporting activities.
Wellness Concepts- These are taught throughout the entire program and a large emphasis is placed on physical fitness. Concepts include how to be safe in the gym and many ways to improve cardiovascular endurance, strength, flexibility, and other components of fitness.
As a teacher, I recognize that children are at different developmental levels with a variety of needs and interests. For this reason, I attempt to provide all of the children with teaming experiences that are both beneficial and enjoyable. Each lesson is also adjusted to take into account the wide range of skill and fitness levels that characterizes children in middle school.
I am proud of the physical education program at West Prairie Middle School an am looking forward to being your child's teacher this year.
